The Cavalier is a Knight. They can serve as either cavalry or a footman. They wear heavy armor and can use a shield and lance from horseback in combat or a variety of melee weaponry if non-mounted.
The Cavalier is able to wear heavy armor, giving them a D3 adjustment on their meter. Like the warrior, a cavalier has use of shields. They cannot, however, use the tower shield.
The weapons available to a cavalier are varied but more strict than a warrior. They are not allowed to use bows or crossbows, but they may use javelins or spears. The lance is the only two-handed weapon they may use while mounted. They may also choose to use a shield and one-handed sword/axe/hammer while mounted as well. They are allowed any two-handed weapon if not mounted. Any class can use a staff as their chosen weapon.
Maces, axes, and swords are the most common weapons for a cavalier. They can choose two-handed maces, axes, or swords when non-mounted. Lances and spears are also available.
They are trained in mounted combat but are equally comfortable on foot.
There are 3 levels of cavalier and the mounted training increases as they progress. Land based mounts are allowed level 2, sea based mounts are allowed at level 3. Of course, level 3 and above can still choose to ride a ground-based mount, and many races would actually prefer it.
