This class was written by Argolind, so while I am giving it, he is the main DM for the deep road runs.
Okay so firstly let me start with what the deep roads runs are. They are set up runs to learn more about the larger role plays happening in the Ga. They are also lead ups to more role plays to come. They are in many ways tied to the other role plays happening at this time. They are located OOC in a couple sims at this time. Sylvhara, Lundene and there is one soon opening in Taure Ru. Icly there are entrances to these per the builders and sim leads. Sylvhara's being through the Drow House. The Lundene one is with in the old dwarven ruins. The Ru one is yet to be located fully.
There are many items to locate here. Some major in the role plays. Others are of a more personal use nature. So then how to go about setting one up or showing interest in one of these runs?
Well first off contacting Argolind, or one of the other Dm's that tends to fill in for him is the first start. We often ask three days advance notice before such. To allow for us to prepare the site and role play for your enjoyment. There is also now a signup box on the side patio in the Lion’s Head.
Having a time and day ready. An idea of whom you want to bring along. Cause alone you will likely die there. We suggest groups of at least three.
These are all things to keep in mind. Whomever asks for the run is usually the one we automatically consider the leader for the run. They are in charge of getting people ready, role playing up to going. And keeping in touch with myself and the other Dm's to lead up to the day and time of the event.
If too many decide to want to come along. More than six usually we will separate the groups into two letting another volunteer to lead or we choose some one.
Role play leading up helps keep the interest in these runs going. It makes all the players involved feel welcome and invited. There will of course be those times the GM may ask for a last minute run. We always try to get as much in place as we can. We are not always successful. Once the time of the event comes. The builder has set things up accord to the wishes of the Dm and GM. Land Marks, What will be encountered. Role play should begin at least a half hour before the run to get tension and atmosphere integrated for the trip ahead. The deep roads are deep in the ground and very dangerous to traverse. There should be a slight sense of unease even for the most stalwart of party members.
Any questions so far?
The Dm will begin to help the party with role play adding an air of ambiance. This is purely pulled from the Dm's head. Usually off the role play of the party members going
Once the party actually role plays traveling to the dungeon/deep roads. A landmark ready ahead of time will be sent to party members and leader. This should still be role played arriving even if by portal.
The Dm should at this point be giving an idea of what the party is seeing hearing and smelling as they come into the part of the run ready for them.
Any Npc's that have volunteered should be in place and ready for the Dm to set lose or say to begin role playing. If not the Dm then if a judge is assigned to assist it will be the judge doing this. Specially if rolls may come into play. Those such as made from MC
Again this is something the Dm prepares ahead of time with the NPC's Judges and GM
At this point it should be noted the leader and party members should have a posting order ready. A side group chat could even be set up for ooc communications for questions or for the Dm to give bits of information as needed as the party moves through the Dungeon. Starting off in the posting order the party should begin to freely explore the run as they see fit for their characters. Dm always try and feed off what the party does. If a party member looks at a certain area. The DM tries to describe it. Or at least give off what they may see and feel.
Moving ahead in the order of the role play posting is always encouraged as going to far ahead before role playing something could enable a trap or message that will need to be dealt with or enabled. Or even a NPC response. So post then move according to your posts.
Any questions so far?
Think of it almost like a turn based movement game.
DMs will use their best judgment on their personal knowledge at the time to advance the group. To decide on items found handed out. What happens when a party member triggers something. Usually they have sat with our amazing builder Malakye and have a great idea of what is there and planned.
You can always message in IM's the Judge, the Dm or the party leader if something happens, if you are confused. Or if you have some form of dispute.
The Dm also has the right to amend things as more information is learned. Changing something in order to fit current Role Play. Some items were found and some not. Those items need to be somewhat close to each other to learn about them more. Argolind had to somewhat sadly block some role play till the other item is found. So remember We always keep everything in mind to the best of our ability if we must change something.
Any questions so far?
Items : this is a big one to watch and pay attention on for all. There are role play items DMs may give out to players that are found from good role playing. Or even searching the dead body of a NPC. Or perhaps the party encounters a creature and one decides to try and pickpocket it. The DM will have the judge roll or themselves. And depending upon the result will offer something for success. Items should not be searched for in any other manner than the room you are in or the area around you. Not camming ahead, or searching about in other means. Role playing and searching .. it really makes the gain and reward so much better when you explore and find things.
Once you do find something you think is noteworthy. Say something to the DM, the Judge, or even in the OOC chat. Call it out if there is a need to call 'dibs' on something. One thing I have yet to do. As I learn with each new run is this. I am going to ask an Item order be thought out by the party members. Meaning if there are four people that have already gotten things on prior runs. And 2 that have not, perhaps they should be allowed to find something before others. Even if you notice something before them. It is not a competition really. Another player getting or finding something you want is just an opportunity for more role play.
The items that you find you can see if they can be bought. They may be something unique they may not be. Before buying anything and taking it for yourself. Role Play it, make sure you are not that person that is grabbing eight things just cause you saw them first. That really just puts a lot more weight on you. And may even ruin someone's fun
We all love to find things and be a part of the bigger picture. Yet remember just cause you did not find it, does not mean you could not try and get it from that person in role play.
Add that Loot will go in a Pool till the end of the run and then they can split it up. How it is is split up depends upon Player makeup, roleplay and dice rolls. (example Bob Needs X for his current RP and no one else does so the party decided that of the 5 items dropped Bob gets X, Billy and Sally BOTH need Y for their current RP so the DM rolls dice. He gets a 12 so Billy gets the Y loot item. {50/50 change there}, there are 3 other Loot Items and 3 other Players, and no one makes any Claims on each, so the DM rolls and splits the remaining items between the players)
Any questions on this so far?
A note from Malakyte:” it ruins my fun.. there was one run where someone cammed around and got most of the items that had been set out. I place things for everyone.”
Nods in case any did not know Mala is our amazing builder, and her joy comes in the watching how players find what she has done. Remember your role play reflects her build. Role playing it out really shows her how much people enjoy her builds and the work she does.
It is okay to rp non purchasable items, All the player would have to do is what i will explain here shortly send the role play of exploring the item to the DM of the run you got it on. They will let you know what can happen from what you do. I know that can be somewhat troublesome. But helps with surprise and exploration in role play.
So then once you have the item. Argolind, the DM, or Malakyte will make note of it. yet i suggest just in case each player write in a note card what they found, when they found it, and what it looked like. This will help in future investigations of said items.
Also there is now a page that items will be tracked on. This will help us a lot.
Okay so moving through the dungeon. Posting and having posts ready ahead as much as possible is a good thing to have ready. Pre posting. typing in things you know you want to do, or that can not be affected by things other players do say
The faster you all post and move through likely the more you will find which means .....
MORE LOOT FOR ALL
NPC's and monsters: Npc's and monsters are volunteers and often wait long times for the players to reach where they are. Some times they will be unity meter ready. Others will just be ready to do the role play thing. And the parties role play reactions to them will decide their manners towards them.
They will give the three lines of role play , the judge or Dm should make sure the party is ready for them for meter combats. I do usually say ahead of time. And expect the party should be ready to be attacked at all times in the deep roads.
A cloaker is not going to say it is there waiting for you before dropping on your head. So some things are by how they happen and what the NPC's are.
There may be a time when the monsters do not wait for their neat turn in the post order, There will be a fight announced, and all posts stop, and a meter fight will happen. The DM or Judge will try and make sure that all players are ready and not still typing their next post.
Please make sure you prim down before beginning the crawl.
Our monsters are amazing in giving their time., I have had some sit three hours and never meet the party
There will be runs that are not spellfire,DMs still ask though meters be worn. In case of damage prims or traps which of course if you see your health or meter take a hit, Role play it out, if you fall in a hole roleplay out of it before flying out. Or jumping out. Maybe your ankle was sprained and you need the party to get you out group efforts. Working together toward common goals together
Malakyte Thorne: Rope are suggested, there are places that cannot be jumped out of
I do really reward good role play over one liners and running about trying to just find the items
Let me see here ... the party can decide at any time they want to return and perhaps come back another time
Though the configuration may be different.. as Malakyte builds she has to delete old prims.. old rooms and passages.
If this happens know the deep roads are vast and even though you may go to the exact place you did before. It may not be the same place or it may have changed. Many mysterious magics are at work down there
On an OOC note, items that were down and not found. Are usually replaced yet perhaps not in same areas. As for whom decides on the items that is on the Game master. though he does leave it to me to at times describe them, how they work and such
Every run he lets us know what he wants down. For searching NPC's or such i do that off the top of my head, unless they hold something that should be found.
Alright I have taken nearly an hour here. I could go on and on, So i will open the floor to any questions regarding runs
Q: Flying , will it always be allowed?
A: Yes so long as the tunnels and such fit. We have some areas you may not notice though and flying in some ways allows for seeing outside the build which could spoil fun
Q: the question i have about the meter fighting... is there going to be runs that are only rp
A: Yes there are, there have been as well. I may still ask though meters be worn. In case of damage prims or traps which of course if you see your health or meter take a hit, Role play it out, if you fall in a hole roleplay out of it before flying out. Or jumping out.
