Finding Hope begins in Lundene during the Roleplay of the Blood King. The lands there are being threatened by a Vampire King; undead, famine and plague is running rampant.
Finding Hope
Jayded groaned, dropping hear head against the table before she sat up, and pushed herself from the chair. She looked around briefly, letting out a long sigh, first Dinnin left, and probably upset, and now Sincere was gone. She needed to take a walk... To clear her mind.
Jayded walked out of the barn in the middle of the night, she walked through the dead fields, gazing around the lands. The stench of death was everywhere. She didn't know how long she'd been walking, but she was deeper into the forests now, and unlike most of the realm this place looked a little less touched by death. Heck it looked a little less touched by anything. It was the perfect place to be alone with her thoughts.
After a few hours of wandering, Jayded was about to turn back towards the barn. She hated arguing with Dnnin when they barely got to see each other now a days, but this was there constant and never changing argument, ever since they'd first met. Jayded sighed softly and was about to move back down the way she came when she heard it. It was faint at first, and far off. The sound was weak, but she was sure she wasn't mistaken. And so she hurried in the direction of the sound that grew into a weak crying voice.
She was surprised that anything or anyone was living this deep in the forests. She paused when she saw the cave that was rather well hidden by the bushes and trees. The crying had stopped, but she could still hear shuffling from within. Jayded reached for her daggers, and as quickly and silently as possible she would move into the caves. Her eyes didn't have to take long to adjust. There were melted and used candles all around the walls, but only 1 single candle burned now, and it was near its end. Her gaze first settled on the larger figure. A human male was in the entrance, and at first she thought he was already dead, but no. He was badly wounded and leaning against the cave wall. Jayded said nothing as she moved to kneel by him. Her eyes moving to the deadly wounds at his side and down along his thigh and leg. It was obvious that he had fought the creatures off trying to get back here, more then likely those under the Blood King. She frowned, her gaze moving to his face. He was staring at her, watching her before he finally spoke in a shaky raspy voice "My child... " Jayded barely glanced up to where she saw a bundle of blankets on the ground next to the candle. She could tell this cave was a makeshift home for the man and this baby. Jayded turned back to the man, her gaze softening as she watched his life force slowly leaving him, though he used the last of his strength to speak "Her mother... is dead, Please you must find her safely out of this cursed realm..." he was gasping for breath now and Jayded tried to calm him, kneeling by his side, she would reached for her water skin, and try to lift the man so he could at least wet his lips. "Rest assured, I will make sure your daughter leaves this realm safely." cursing herself under her breath for taking on such an impossible task with what she already needed to do.
Jayded stood up and turned towards the baby. It was incredible that the thing was still alive in these conditions. She took a few steps towards it, watching her for a few moments before finally kneeling down and picking her up. Jaydeds brows furrowed as she held the infant up in front of her "What am I going to do with you, little one..." her voice a little thick as she glanced back over at the childs now dead father. Jayded sighed heavily, she would use some of the straps from her leather harness, loosening them and tucking the child in between the straps, before tightening the buckles around the blankets, at least it would be easier to travel back like this.
And so with this little infant in to she would leave the caves, making her way back to the barn where she'd have to explain to Sincere whey they now had an infant in the barn....

Over her head?
[12:58] Jayded Slade wasn't expecting anyone to be in the barn when she pushed the door open and made her way in, her gaze was on the infant that she had cradled and secured to her through the straps and buckles of her top, one wing draped over her both shielding, as well as warming the child. She kicked the door shut, about to turn towards the fire, figuring she should make some sort of broth for the little thing when she saw him sitting near the fire. "You came back."
[13:00] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) turned as he spoke. "I did not leave, I was only outside in the wood...." he stopped speaking when his eyes fell upon the infant she held in her arms. "What is that?" he asked in a suspicious tone, as if she held some secret weapon in her arms.
[13:09] Jayded Slade looked down at the child as she responded to him. "A human child from the looks of it..." a soft look upon her face as she reached down, letting the infant wrap its little grubby fingers around her index finger. She looked back up to Dinnin "I went for a walk to clear my head... Sincere left on some errand and well..." she shrugged, looking back down at the child.
[13:12] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) narrowed his eyes as he said. "I can see that it is a human child, what are you doing with it? Why do you have it?" he pointed at the infant as if it was a thing and not a living being.
[13:16] Jayded Slade slightly arched a brow as she lifted her gaze back up to meet Dinnins. "Because the father is dead, and the child was left alone within the caves far from any of the village or castle dwellers, I couldn't very well leave it out there, it wouldn't survive..." her brows furrowed as she returned her gaze to the child that was now beginning to doze off. Jayded felt awkward with the child in her arms. She hadn't held in infant in so long. . [13:19] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) rolled his eyes and shook his head. "Always trying to be the savior." he muttered under his breath. "Well then take it into the city and give it to the orphanage, they will take care of it. Why bring it back here?" he made a shoo-ing motion with his clawed hands. "This is no place of an infant, nor is it the time for you to get sentimental and play wet nurse."
[13:26] Jayded Slade arched a brow at him as she heard his words, but the last thing she wanted to do was argue with him again. "I considered that, but ... No. Not with the plague running rampant through the city, and even the castle, it would have been no different then leaving it in the caves." she knew she couldn't keep it with her either, it wasn't like she had the time to care for a child. "I will have to find another solution, which is why it is here... For now..." she groaned, clenching her jaw as she tore her gaze from the infant back to Dinnin. "Don't you think I know this? This is not me being sentimental. I told it's father that I would make sure she was taken care of, and i will."
[13:32] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) scoffed. "You fool!" he hissed. "Then you will have to break your word. You stand on the precipice of the greatest battle of your life and you want to play mother? What is wrong with you? Who is going to care for it when you are off killing people? When the Blood King summons you to his side? Are you going to show up with an infant in your arms? Stop being childish." he held out his clawed hand toward Jayded. "Give me the child, I will deal with it." Suddenly that clawed hand he held out did not look like an offering of help, but a hungry fanged serpent ready to devour the child, metaphorically of course.
[13:38] Jayded Slade clenched and unclenched her jaw, her gaze narrowing at Dinnin "Of course, Ever the fool I am in your eyes, I would not expect this to be any different! I know what we face! I do not need you to remind me of the battle, or the situation I've managed to put myself in. I do not plan to keep the infant with me any longer then needed! I will find her safe passage to my people, and from there she will be away from all of this. There is nothing childish about it, nor my actions!" she said swiftly taking a step back. "No, I will deal with it." she did not want to know what sort of dealing he had in mind for the infant, but she knew it wasn't anything she'd consider to be her way of 'dealing' with a baby. "You honestly think I would hand it over after you've made it so obvious about how you feel about the creature?" she spoke through clenched teeth.
[13:41] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) moved toward her, his eyes burning bright with fel energies. "Are you questioning my loyalty?" his tone took on a threatening manner and his eyes blazed with verdant anger. "It is a child of Lundene, give it to Reginar and his people to deal with, this is not a child of Ru and should you take it there, you will only start a war. A war that no one needs."
[13:46] Jayded Slade narrowed her gaze at him, not stepping back anymore, but also not handing over the child. "Your loyalty? No. I am sure you very much so would deal with this child, though I find it hard to believe that it would be in such a way that would have the kind of outcome that I have promised it's now dead father." she shook her head, letting out a soft sigh "That is nonsense, none would start a war over such a thing as this orphaned child. No one even knows, much less cares about it."
[13:51] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) tilts his head to the side not believing what he was hearing. "Are you so certain of that? Are you willing to risk that over some child who's dead father you made a promise to? You think that Reginar would allow one of his own people to be abducted and taken from its homeland so easily? This is why...THIS is why you have to stop this nonsense. It is because you do not think ahead of the consequences of your actions." he spun away from her and growled. "The path to oblivion is paved with good intentions. We must see beyond our own actions to what ripple they will make." He turned back to her and pointed a taloned finger at the child. "If that thing leaves the shores of Lundene you will single handedly created another problem this realm nor yours needs."
[14:03] Jayded Slade narrowed her gaze slightly, her lips pressed into a thin line as she shook her head "There is no risk, no one knows of this child, the only ones that knew anything are now dead, and it was left... in my care..." she said reluctantly "And now you know as well. Do you want to go to Reginar and inform him yourself? Because other then that happening there would be no other way of any words reaching his ear of a Lundenian child leaving this realm, whom is leaving by their fathers wishes, dead or alive..." she was growing more and more angry but she had to control her tone, the child was already stirring and beginning to cry. "Damn it, this is not nonsense! It is only nonsense to YOU. -You- see this as a path to oblivion, I simply see it as the right thing to do! As for the child leaving these shores.... Very well, I need not tell you or anyone else what happens to the child nor where I leave it, you need not -trouble- yourself with such nonesense." she said the last few words with sarcasm.
[14:07] Dinnin De'Vir (miragule) eyes turned to the child. How easily he could snuff the life from it with but a swipe of his hand and the utterances of a few words. It would be nothing more than a corpse in Jayded's arms. But he did not. "Perhaps this is another lesson you will need to learn...alone." With those words his form vanished from sight in a cloud of black smoke.
[14:11] Jayded Slade let out a long sigh, crashing down into the chair which only jarred the baby even more, causing it to cry even more. "Oh, shush now... The mean ole demon man is gone, and look... You're still alive, so lets get some food in that belly of yours..." She let out a long sigh, leaving the child strapped to her as she went to work, preparing the broth for the child... She would have to find a means to transport the baby out of here, and fast. he was right, if they were summoned she could not simply leave the child behind. Well she could, but that would be no better then the state her father left her in, only the barn was somewhat warded against the outside eyes and ears... She shrugged to herself and went on making the broth, only stopping to wonder how the heck she was going to feed it some... She'd have to get this child taken care of quickly.

Share a little bit of Hope
Sincere made his way from the docks, through shadow and shade to hide his trek muttering under his breath something about all this 'hiding' it was something he was still getting used to. He followed the smoke from the chimney easy enough, a soft sigh thinking he'd forgotten to put the fire out before he left to meet with Star. This time as he neared the door after scouting the building for a few minutes he moved towards the door, still cracked as he'd left it so he could come back in if Jayded wasn't here when he returned. He pushed the door open his focus fell to the avariel laid on the floor with her back to the door. His first thought was his ward had worn thin over time and they got to her. His boots thudded heavy across the wood floor and still deep with muffled steps over fur "Jayded! Are you..." he began as he knelt behind her about to reach for her shoulder to try to roll her over and see if she was alive. His outreach halted hearing the soft sounds of a baby slobbering and sucking on the back of it's hand. He almost leaps to his feet backwards from her as he stood "what in the hells...is that...."
Jayded Slade groaned, her brows furrowing as she lifted herself onto an elbow, squinting, then closing one eye while she looked out of the other "Sincere.. I had begun to worry. I wasn't sure if you had gone to see Star or what, but.... Good to see you back and in one piece." she barely finished her sentence when she heard his last words "Oh, that... I found it, well her... After I'd gone out for a while." she said all matter of fact like, her gaze focused on his as she tried to read his reactions, wondering if he would respond anything like Dinnin did which she half expected... Well, maybe more then half.
Sincere continues to back up the stretch of wet leather and squish of drenched boots once again filling his ears as he took in the sight of a baby laying in front of her as she raised to rest on her elbow and look at him. His eyes opening and closing a few times to be sure he was seeing and actually hearing things correctly "And your plans for...it?"
Jayded Slade blinked a couple of times as she watched him, at least so far he wasn't reacting as badly as Dinnin had. She sat up, looking down at the baby before she looked over to him once more. "Well... At first i was considering taking it to the orphanage in the middle of the night but... Well the town is riddled with the plague, the realm is at work, and there is not enough food or drink for anyone, let alone a poor orphaned child..." she shrugged as she looked down at her. "So instead I brought Nu'eath here, until I can figure out how to get her out of the realm and into the right hands." she'd managed to name the child elven for 'Hope' in the short time she's had her here. Jayded frowned as she kept her gaze on the baby. "Dinnin already voiced his opinion, so if you think me foolish, irresponsible, childish, or anything else of the sort, rest assured, Dinnin has already relayed the message." She tried to hide the hurt and resentfulness in her tone as she kept her gaze on the child.
Sincere would begin to peel the wet leather cloves from his hands and slap them onto the table from sheer weight more than force as he listened to her His head canting ot the side as she had already given the child a name. Giving a soft shrug as she spoke of the Demon Prince already speaking to her about the child. His own dark eyes focused on the small pink thing "I do share some of those thoughts...If I am to remain honest with you has I have thus far. I can only express my concern, already you have spread yourself thin, and now this burden of 'hope' if I remember what little Elvish I've learned from Katja over the years?..." he paused as his question on the name was posed but his head shook lightly and he continued "...either way, say Manfred calls us for another task before the final stages, before you have been able to relocate this child, or forbid this child having suffered much already not make it much farther than this day or the next.....Do you believe you can handle such a loss, deepening your burden?"
Jayded Slade continued to keep her eyes on the child, smiling a little when she saw that he recognized the name. She shrugged to him "In the end I felt as though i had no choice. Her father was dying in the caves, no other soul in sight, her mother dead as well... Was I to leave her to the undead, or the monsters to find and rip to shreds? This barn is warded is it not? No one can hear or see what goes on within? If we are called before I can find her safe passage then I will leave her here, one day alone would not do much to her, she's a strong one." Jayded said with a little smile as she let Nu'eath wrap her fingers around her own. "She would not have made it to the next day is it is, this way..." she paused, letting out a long sigh before finally lifting her gaze to meet Sincere's "This way at least I know I have tried all that is within my reach to help her, and besides, what am I to do when a fathers dying breath is to ask me to make sure his child is seen safely out of this cursed realm?" Sincere continued to lean against the tables edge forcing his boots off some held water draining to the floor. Pruned toes wiggle a little in stretch being freed from wet boot. "There is always a choice...I can not say if you chose correctly...but yes this structure is sound enough. He reached out to touch the wall behind him speaking a spell in common to re-instill his will with weave and protection he'd placed on this barn what seemed like weeks ago now "was once cast, strengthen and remain, until use of this structure sees our last day" he grinned as he looked around and could see his will and the weave flash once more a bright blue, the sheen left only visible by those carrying arcane sight other wise it would remain to look like a run down building. His attention turned back to her and the child meeting her gaze as she continued "I can not fault you for that I suppose, that is why we are both here...after all, but this is your burden. I am....less than equipped to handle such things if my past has taught me anything." his brows furrowed for a second as he thought of a few different instances, his own turned and even the first 'gift' given to him by his Sire for doing well on some task he'd mostly long forgotten.
Jayded Slade's brows furrowed as she listened to him. She was grateful that he did not lay it on heavier then he had. She was expecting him to, but glad he didn't She took the baby up in her arms as she gazed down at her and ndoded "I would not burden you with any of this, I understand." she would glance back up at him then as he continued "What do you mean? Your past? Do you have children, Sincere?" She remembered mentioning to him the other night that her and Dinnin had a son, something that not many knew about it. "Care to hold her? I find she brings me... calmness.. when in my arms. " she turned her gaze back down to Nu'eath and smiled softly, the baby was back to sleeping in her arms almost instantly.
Sincere nodded as she spoke about understanding his reservations for getting close. His brows furrow deepened a little as he thought for what seemed like an extended long pause, debating on if not to share or even how much of it to speak of, but thought only fair as he knew of her son. His brow soften as he'd reached a conclusion "I have an adoptive vampire chylde the Lady Corvus, though I have not seen her since I myself was a vampire....." pausing once more as the visions of his other two flashed in his mind "My first. her name was Tessa, the second Cathrine or Catt..." he swallowed hard his right hand gripping the edge of the table he leaned against as in memory his blade was drawn and lives taken..His eyes closed for a second and his chest heaved with a deep breath. Grip on table loosened as the memories faded speaking barely above a whisper "they are no more..." and his eyes opened to see her holding the baby and waiving his hand to signal he didn't wish to hold it. "Last I held one of those, it was a gift from my Sire...and the ...." his head shakes "it is just probably best I keep my distance..."
Jayded Slade listened to him intently, her lips forming a soft pout and her brows furrowing. She could pick up on the intensity of his emotions with the memories. She smiled a small smile, nodding to him, the smile fading as he went on. She felt her chest tightening slightly. The idea of losing a child was always a scary one. Something she feared herself when it came to her son, but he was alive still, against all odds..Jayded slightly tilted her head to one side as she tried to understand what he meant in the end as she helped "Nu'eath up to him, and it took her a moment to figure it out. Her eyes widened slightly, her lips parting, but she said nothing as she held the child against her "Well that was then... And besides, "Nu'eath is not that child." she said with a little smile as she looked down at her. "Soon she will be on her way to Taure Ru, the Ilharess Elva'ree will keep her safe until I can finally return after all of this... and arrange for a more permanent situation for this little hope." she said with a grin.
Sincere held his bare hand up as if holding the held up child at bay but not touching either of them as the baby was offered "No...she most certainly is not..." in deep calm almost cold tones then his brow arched "Though I agree an underdark is better than the swamps or this..taint of a realm.....but are you sure a human..." his eyes scanned what he could see of the sleeping child to see if any sign of it being more than human before he continued " this human will fair well surrounded by Drow that despise all "Kivil ?" if memory serves on the language?" he shook his head "after my talk with the General and what she's given me...and what you can give me...take the child return to Ru, to your son...I will finish what I started... " he gestured a little towards her holding the sound sleeping child "..that suits you better than this vampire business, call it my atonement for all the years I've spent as one of them?" he chuckled a little but not exactly joking, he hoped with this child he could talk her out of continuing, as always he'd rather be the one to reap the risk.
Jayded Slade kept her gaze on the child as she listened to Sincere, swaying her side to side now as she rocked back back to sleep while listening to Sincere's words. She would glance up at him, tilting her head to one side. She would gaze at him before finally smiling and shaking her head "Ahh, you think me better suited to the life of a mother then?" She said with a grin before shaking her head. "No, she will be safe with the Ilharess, she will know how to keep her hidden and safe until we have completed our tasks. I will not abandon you at the end of it all and leave it all in your hands. What, you think you get to have all of the fun." Her gaze on the child again before looking back up to Sincere. She could tell that he still blamed himself for her bing here with him in this situation. "I chose to here, and here I will remain until we see it through my friend..." Sincere's shoulders dropped as did his head, even his gaze fell to the floor as she swayed and spoke or remaining "No you are well suited for war as well..but this one.....this path...is different than all others....I am sure in our abilities and the skill of those that have helped...but we much face the possibility that even if we succeed.....and his reign be cut short before it truly begins...." he took a deep breath not exactly wanting to say what he was thinking what she must have at least thought of a time or two in the past.
Jayded Slade watched his reaction to her words, her mind replaying several possible scenarios over and half which simply did not end pretty.. Jayded let out a soft sigh "I know what you mean to say... I have had those thoughts countless times, and each time I get to thinking in such ways I simply remind myself of the cause, and all of the lives that will be spared, and well... Hope... For better days. They will have hope." she repeated as she laid her down in the crib and tucked the blankets in around her. "Besides, i try not to keep the worst of those thought anywhere near the forefront of my mind, Ill luck and al all." she said jokingly as she turned back to him.
Sincere turned an awkward grin "Perhaps I would be more resolute if I were the paladin I once was...I can't remember a time I have entertained even the slightest true doubt....." he shook his head "but once again you are correct we can not ponder such possibilities and manifest our will to fruition...." he glanced to the ground once again "Funny I can remember telling countless soldiers in my charge over the years "see your victory and hold tight to that vision during the carnage...believe that you do all that you can and will have no chance at failure...." he shook his head and looked down his clothes mostly dried from time and the warmth of the flames heat. He decided he needed to change his frame of mind down time was not something he was good with yet. He quickly started to pat the pouches across his chest until he found the one he wanted and slipped a silver coin from it "this...this will aid us "
Jayded Slade half smiled an shrugged before she dropped back down next to the warmth of the fire on the rug. She would look up at him, her brows furrowing as she pondered his words. She smiled a dreadful smile as she stared into the fire "Well It say something that even Dinnin shows the impression that we area bout to embark on a battle that no matter how much we prepare for... We will remain to be ill prepared." she let out a long sigh as she turned her eyes back to Sincere. "Even with that, what more can we do then what we are already doing?" she shrugged, with a half smile on her face as she listened to him. Jayded arched a brow at Sincere as he began to pat down his pockets, and fo ra split second she had forgotten that she'd tucked away the fire opal fire safe "What is that for?" she finally asked him, her eyes moving from the coin to his face.
Sincere shrugged "not much more than we are, and only hope it is enough no matter the doubts." he tossed the coin up in the air and let it slap to land in his palm. "If I am to trust the General Star, it will allow me to communicate with her, see how she progresses on the shot we need from her...." he said simply "She as for now is comfortable at one hundred yards with an arrow capable to taking armor away from the problem...but she had her student with her Kaella and well I gave little information other than my question of her abilities and my word given to the Queen Kanna, perhaps the only reason she didn't decide to take me in as a traitor" he shrugged not knowing exactly what he'd said that gave Star insight to believe he was not the traitor he painted of his self when he bent knee. "The weapon is all we are lacking then to finally set a hard plan, for now we have pieces and theories "
Jayded Slade grinned up at him as she heard what the coin would do "That is great! We grow closer and closer to achieving what we set out to do those months ago, and just think... Soon we can go home, back to our normal lives..." She nodded to his last words "The weapon is almost complete, and then soon... The Blood Kings days are numbered, old friend." She spoke before looking back to the fire.
Sincere would step close to her as she spoke of returning to normal. But he remained silent with his thoughts on that for now. "aye, you will and yes we draw closer each day to ending this.." if she allowed he would reach to pat her shoulder with a small squeeze.

Losing Hope
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan finds his way to the Speckled Feather Tavern of Lundene, "I'll have a wine please," his thoughts are on Bella and the words they expressed the day before, "Oh, in a cup please," he quickly adds to the barmaid, Dishan is still adjusting to his Asgardian changes, he seems to be stronger then the Satyr was. He sighs and leans on the bar running his finger over some of the rough spots.
Jayded Slade was pacing back and forth with the crying baby in her arms. She new the thing was hungry, and dirty, and tired, and lord knows what else. Jayded couldn't simply go waltzing into town in an attempt to buy baby items! "Shhh, shhh now, it will all be alright... Eventually she would walk over to the mantle, grabbing a parchment and a quill she would begin to write out a message. Once done she would grab her cloak and hood, making sure to cover her wings, as well as as much of her face as possible before she made her way to the outskirts of town. This was a long shot, but she had to try. She would stop a random villager, hoping by pure chance they would do what she asks. "Pardon me, If you could deliver a message for me, I would greatly appreciate it." she would rock the baby under her cloak to keep it quiet "Give this to the barkeep, ask her to deliver it to Dishan... If you do so and come back here I will give you even more then this." she says as she hands over a few coins, watching the villagers eyes light up instantly. She took care to not get too close to him in case he was sick or carried the plague and was simply not showing signs yet. She may be immune but the child was not.
Jayded Slade: The message would read: "Dishan, I hope this message finds you well. I am sure after our few encounters you probably do not want anything to do with me, but I reach out now because I can think of no other in these lands which are foreign to me. I give you a list.... A list of things that I will need, if you choose to help, then I will be waiting by the old well near the destroyed fields... " The list was a strange one in deed, pins, cloths, bladders filled with goat milk, a few random herbs and salves, and a sling....
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan drops a few coin onto the bar and takes the cup of wine, "Many thanks," the barmaid is very polite and asks him if its true that he had changed from a Satyr, Dishan explains the change. As he finishes she hands him a folded parchment with a small red seal. "For me?" he says setting the cup down, "Must be my many admirers," he says in a chuckle, the barmaid smerks and goes about her business, "Lets see here... Oh, jayd," he says softly wondering if he should even bother, but he continues, "Pins? Cloths? BLADDERS?.. This Avariel has finally lost it." he says in amazement as he looks around at a few folks trying to figure him out. Dishan holds up the parchment, "Madness, yea," he shakes his head and goes back to the wine. He thinks carefully on the letter, then he thinks if its what he thinks it is, it most certainly cannot be with Jayd or any of that Blood King stuff. "By the stag!" he says rushing out of the tavern with the list.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): "Jayd," he says as he sees her by the well. "What is this?" he holds up a duffle full of what she asked for.
Jayded Slade was standing by the well, cradling the child underneath her cloak when she heard his voice, but when she looked up his voice didn't match the face she was accustomed to seeing as Dishan... She took a step back, her gaze narrowing slightly. I would be hard to grab for her blades with a baby in her arms.... "Is this some sort of trick?" she responded, though she saw him holding the duffel up, and did not come across threatening. "What is this?" she asked, rather baffled.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): He drops the bag at her feet, "What do you mean?.. I got your note at the tavern." he looks at her then the baby, then back to Jayd, "Oh, me?.. Dont worry it is I, Dishan, long story." he waves a hand at her as though to dismiss it, "You hit me in the head, remember?.. I remember." he gives her a nod and then smiles at the baby, he pushes hair from his face and looks at it closer, "Gooby gooby, baby." he looks back to jayd, "Who's baby is this?" he says firmly.
Jayded Slade's brows furrowed wearily. She was sure it was him, the voice was the same, but the appearance... She let out a soft sigh, her gaze relaxing a little, but she still leaned away slightly when the baby made noises and he began cooing it. "Yes, I remember.... .Sorry about that, I did what I had to do." Even she was growing tired of hearing herself say those words, lords know how the others feel about it. She looked down at the child then back to him "I could not say... I found it... Her... in a cave, her father dying of the gods know what that had attacked him.. " she couldn't help but to wonder if the baby belonged to the same family that lived in this very barn. She waved for Dishan to follow her into the barn, from the outside it looked abandoned, but on the inside, you could tell that Sincere and Jayded had taken up residence here.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan listened to her but before he spoke he followed her into the barn, grabbing the duffle as he went.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): He drops the duffle inside and looks around briefly, but his attention is on Jayd and the baby, "So, here are your supplies, everything you asked for. You owe me two crown." he says looking between them, "Good luck with the baby jayd." he starts to turn to depart.
Jayded Slade watched as he dropped the bag, Dinnins words returning to her mind about giving the baby to Sir Reg, but she worried to much about what was happening in these realms. "Dishan, wait..." She would offer him the child "Hold her for a moment." she said, wanting to grab the money to pay him back for what he'd spent and then some.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan turned to her and all of a sudden he has a baby in his arms, before he could say anything, he is drawn in by its dammed cuteness, "Aww, such a cutie," he smiles for a moment and looks to jayd, "seriously Jayd, what are you thinking, everything thats going on in Lundene, murder, poison on the land, and whatever you warned us to come.. and you bring a baby into it?" he shakes his head looking at the baby, "What are you going to do?"
Jayded Slade grabs the money and turns back to Dishan, watching him play with the child for a moment. She takes a deep breath, letting it out in a slow sigh. "What would you have me do then? Leave her behind as Dinnin suggested? Or better yet, for the undead to find?" she would reach out for the child, and hand him the coin. "I had considered leaving her at the orphanage in the city... But withe plague... and leaving her here with me... When I could at a moments notice be summoned by the Blood King..." she let out a long sigh and looked down at the infant "I did not even get the chance to ask for her name... And so I called her Nu'eath..." her gaze going back up to Dishan "Hope... in Elvish" she said with a shrug.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan looked between Jade and the baby, "'Hope', I like the name, perfect for the time were in." he chuckles a bit, "By the stag," he says softly, "I'm taking the baby from you, I wont hear another word." he gestures his hand out at the money, "Keep it, I'll do this for free." then he sighs thinking, "I'll take her to Sylvhara, at least its clean there, the healers might be able to find a home for her.." he raises his brows to Jayd in case she has something to add.
Jayded Slade steps back before he could take her right away "No, wait... Not to Sylvhara... I know of someone that will take her for me.. They will keep her safe until all is said and done.. Until I return to Ru and can take her myself, and place her somewhere to be raised in all of the right ways..." she frowned as she looked down at the child then back up to Dishan "It will seem like a... Strange request.. .To say the least, but the person she will go to will be able to cast protection spells, and glamour her for however long it is needed. " She held on to her as she spoke, as if reluctant to hand her over even though she knew it would be for the best.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan let out a long sigh as Jayd took the baby back and stepped away. "Ru?.. Jayd please, you really think that is better for this child?" he paces a bit in thought and looks at the little wrapped child, "Well, I'm not going to argue with you." he sees that motherly look on Jayds face and in his heart he thinks maybe, just maybe, this might be a good thing for her, "Listen to me for a moment, if EVER, you do not to care for this child, you contact me and I will have a home for her." he states this firmly, "Are you sure about this?" he almost says in a whine, "Ru?"
Jayded Slade felt herself relax a bit more when he seemed to come around. She let out another sigh and moved towards him to reluctantly hand him Nu'eath. She nodded to him, a small smile appearing on her lips "She will not be left to want for anything, nor will she be unwanted... She as already experienced more tragedy then many at her young and tender age... I will be sure she experiences no more.. With your help of course." she nodded to him as she handed her over. She would reach down for the duffel and sling it over his shoulder as well. "In there you should have a sling.. .it will make it far easier to carry her and to keep her hidden under your cloaks, if you do not have a claok I would obtain one if I were you. When you make it to Ru, see out Ilharess Elva'ree Do'Valtor... Do not hand that child off to anyone but her. Tell her I sent you, and give her this note." she shoves the note into the duffel. "Yes, Ru... Let no other see you, and do not go by means of the city, keep her away from the plague, where you may be immune, and I am immune, she on the other hand is not, and could catch it so easily." Jayded could have gone on and on, it was obvious by her tone that she was worried and reluctant, but it was not a task she herself could carry out right now. "Do not put her down, do not let her out of your site, do not hand her to another... All pose risk.."
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): "Nag nag nag," he says playfully to Jayd trying to lighten the mood, he bobs the child in his arms gently, "I will do as you ask Jayd, but I am there for her as well... if ever you should need." he cant help but smile at Jayd, the hard, guard killing, Satyr hitting, Avariel, he shakes his head, "Don't worry about me or her, I can take care of us both, and get her where she needs to be." he adjust the duffle on his shoulder. "Is there anything?"
Jayded Slade couldn't help but to smile, relaxing more now. She nodded towards him once, her gaze moving to Nu'eath as she moved in closer to the infant "Well little one, it looks like your life has been completely rewritten by the gods, and if all goes well... I will see you again." She would plant a soft kiss on the childs forehead. Even though she'd only had for a couple of days she felt protective of her. This infant somehow stood for a lot now. "You two care care of each other, and Dishan... When all is said and done, please let me know... But let no others follow you, and speak to no one of this place.. No one knows I have taken up residence here for the mean time..." leaving out the fact that Sincere had as well. "Make sure none follow you, and..." She cut herself off otherwise she would just keep going "Safe paths... " She must seem like such a confusing sort to the Satyr. Was she an ally? A tratior? A killer? A defender? She could only imagine what was in his head, but the fact that so far he had managed to care enough to help her out in this, or her escape spoke enough to her.
Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Dishan nods listening as she said her farewells to the child, "No one will know of your," he looked the place over again, "Hovel... And you will see your baby soon enough Im sure." he grins to her as he moves out, "Believe me or not, I want you to be safe, okay?" he heads out with the infant in his arm.
Jayded Slade then turned her gaze up to Dishan and offered a small smile. She nodded to him once more before he turned to be on his way with the child in his arms. Jayded whispered under her breath "The Goddess protect you both...."

Delivering Hope
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) makes her way into the Swan, She figured this would be the first stop she made after traveling from Lundene, it was close to the docks and you could get a decent mean, if you lived outside the underdark. Her eyes adjusted to the light of the tavern quickly as she stood in the doorway, She then moved over the room looking for a human male and a baby, she didn't see him right away so she moved to the bar keep and asked softly, "I'm looking for a human and a baby"
Bella: looks back at Dishan and then points to the drow and raises her eyebrow.
Ďishan Çalder: Dishan sniffs the air again, his shoulders slump. He has hardly slept most of the way here to Ru. They fought off a couple of lowlife thieves, may they rest in peace, and now the baby just pooped, again. "By the stag," he says softly, "baby needs to be changed again, its all she does." he says a bit drained, but he chuckles,
Bella: turns.. "Here ... give her to me. Go see who they are at the bar." she whispers.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) gets a nod in the pair in the back's direction from the barkeep, she turned around and leaned against the bar a moment as her eyes searched from them. As she pushed her displeasure at the request Jayded made of her, she began to move toward them, slowly so not to spook them, know the elf probably confused people with her choice of temporary guardian.
ElinaElina wandered in to the Swan, her eyes scanning the room for a specific satyr bard. Drawing in a deep breath she cranes her neck to look about. She looked to the barmaid and a grin grew wide upon her lips "Hello dear, you know you miss this wonderful face gracing your presence on a daily." she'd then stick out her tongue "Satyr named Noc, has he been in?" she'd look from Delores to the unusual gathering. Turning back to Delores "Come now, I know that tongue spits acid. You needn't put on such a facade for guests."
Ďishan Çalder: Hands the baby to Bella, "Do we even have any more cloth?" he looks around the bar at a few drunks and some that look rather seedy, "Nothing clean here," he says in a sigh, he sees the drow but pays more attention to getting the baby cleaned, he rummages through the now almost empty duffle, "Ah, one more clean cloth," he sniffs it, "did she poop in this one already?" [18:53] Bella: takes the baby while dishan looks for some cloth. "Shhhh... " she says as the baby stirs. "Look inside my pack over there Dishan." then holds the baby up as she starts to wake up.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) finished moving up to the pair and the baby. Her eyes only glancing at the woman who entered before turning them back to Dishan, as she reached them she cleared her throat and clasped her hands infront of her to show that she hand nothing in her hands, she ignored the baby and kept her eyes on the two. "I beleive you are looking for me." She said softly so her voice would not carry,
Ďishan Çalder: Dishan pulls a clean cloth from Bellas bag and hands it over to her, the drows voice gets his attention, "Us?" he points to himself, "I dont think so, we are awaiting a friend." he gives her a polite nod and looks back to Bella, "I would say your going to stink up the bar, but, look where we are." he says in a soft chuckle to Bella.
Bella: takes the cloth and quickly changes the baby keeping an eye on the drow.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) tilts her head thinking for a moment that Jayded failed to mention who would be coming to look for the baby, then thought of his wording and frowned, narrowing her eyes at him slightly, "Oh? does the elf know you have made plans around her? That you wish to give Nu'eath to someone besides the one she sent?" Her hands moved behind her now
Bella: raises her eyebrow and looks at dishan.
Ďishan Çalder: Dishan is almost holding his breath and turns away to see Elle from the tavern of Lundene, he gives her a wave, but the drow has his full attention now, "You know the childs name." he studies the drow now, "Your a Drow." he says plainly, "Your the one who will care for this 'human' child?" he says with question, they have grown attached to her through the long travel to Ru and now he will be sure she is safe, for jayd, and himself.
ElinaElina began to drum on the bar counter before letting out a slightly defeated sigh "Gods above if he is lingering in Lundene..." her voice would trail off a moment as she looks to a strange man waving at her. Looking back to Delores "No more drinks for him." she'd advise before adding "Listen for a pan flute, careful of his charm. He's a powerful little bugger."
Bella: The baby starts to cry a bit now and bella gets up walking further away from the drow with her. "Shhh little hope." She says quietly.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) frowns at him like he has lost his mind, "Siyo, I am a drowess, did she fail to warn you?" she looked between Bella and Dishan, "And siyo, who else would the elf trust with the task?" She glanced quickly at the woman at the counter again as Dishan waved to her. catching he words, she raised an eyebrow at Dishan
Ďishan Çalder: Dishan thinks carefully, he glances to Elle again realizing she doesn't recognize him. "No, she didnt mention a Drow." Now he wonders if she mentioned a drow, "Well you know the child's name and you know the 'elf', who sent me. I dont see why you would wander over and ask for her, unless you are the caretaker for her." he lets out a long sigh, "My apologies, but I'm sure you can understand our care. Jayd has fallen hard for the Hope and I want to be sure she is safe... I am Dishan, and this is Bella," gestures back to Bella, "and that," he points to the baby, "Is hope." he waves bella over with the child.
Bella: looks the drow over carefully then moves slowly up to Dishan's side.
Bella: She will need to be fed when she wakes up." she says quietly.
ElinaElina looks back to the group as she overhears the name 'Dishan' brow furrowing slightly. She moved from the bar counter and out the door of the Swan, making her way further in to Taure Ru.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) crosses her arms and shakes her head, but the slip worried her more than it upset her. Elva eyed the baby in Bella's arms, then looked back to Dishan, "Do you wish to quiz me to see if I know how to care for a child or are you concerned with something else?" She glanced between the two slowly. carefully.
Ďishan Çalder: "Well, it doesn't matter what your going to feed her she will popp human poop, if you can handle that, you have your job cut out for you." he says in a laugh now, "No.. I just thought Drows hated folks above ground especially humans. But, then Jayd seems to have quite the variety of allies." he raises his brows to her in a friendly fashion. "You may take the child and keep her safe."
Bella: looks at Dishan as if to say 'are you sure' the reluctantly hands the baby over to the drow as she studies the female's face. She will not forget this drow should anything bad happen to little Hope.
Elva'ree Do'Valtor(Elvaree Llewellyn) sighed and nodded, "I assure you, I will not be the one who changed the child." as if preparing herself she flexed her hands, "Bel'la dos," She looked at the woman and leaned in to take the baby from her, "As you memories my features, remember this transaction never took place Jallil, but you can find me in the infirmary usually."
Bella: looks steadily in the woman's eyes and nods..
Bella: turns and walks back to Dishan blinking a tear from her eyes. as she reaches down and puts her blade back on.
Ďishan Çalder: Dishan smiles as she takes the child, he nods at her information about the infirmary, "Well, I guess thats that then. Thank you for your care." he bows his head politely, "Be well... Bella we have a long journey home." he says in a tired tone and happy to know he will sleep soundly this night.
Bella: Bella looks quietly on... Her eyes rest on the baby's sleeping face and she silently sends a prayer that the goddess will watch over her. She then turns to dishan and says.. "Yes... we do."
Elva'ree Do'Valtor (Elvaree Llewellyn) feels the weight of the baby in her arms, and looks down at it, she nodded to them and held the baby close to her. She frowned slightly then held her hand over the baby, and began to draw on her mana, she pictured what she wanted in her minds eye, the baby not looking like a human, as she reached for the weave she released her magic saying, "thir'ku."and it shimmered over the baby, it suddenly looked like a drow baby. she looked up at the two, "Aluve, dark paths as you trival

Shadow's of Hope
[12:27:50] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) glanced down at the baby in her arms, making a face at it. Jayded was so going to owe her, but the elf was useful and so would the baby, once it was older. Until then she had to keep it alive. She had given the Ruvian infirmary special instructions to insure the health of the small thing. A few special bottles were prepared to help her thrive and they were all packed in a nice little sack that she could summon to her once she reached her destination. Ignoring the sidelong glances from the staff she started out.
[12:44:37] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) finds her way to were she was expecting to Myr, she came upon him sitting on the wall, was pleased to have reached her destination. She pulled down her hood as she turned the corner, and adjusted the babies position in her arms, " Vendui' Myr'Avin, enjoying the fresh air?"
[12:47:55] Myr'Avin Baen'Rret (turalyon.lapis) 's ear twitches slightly at the sound of his Matron's voice while he sat on the short wall just above his tavern..."Enjoying the air, watching...as long as those here believe that I just run this shop I have the advantage of no one expecting anything."...he would slide off the wall after speaking, his hardened leather pants scraping against the stonework as he did, and would bow deeply to Elva'ree in respect to her since there was no one around; noticing the small human child in her arms without saying a word about it
[12:54:40] Ondine Ninetails: nods greetings... and proceeds to the bridge
[13:00:05] Ďishan Çalder (teer.latzo): Moves past the drow with a nod.
[13:00:39] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) began bouncing the baby as it started to wake up as she stopped moving, "All the better." She let her eyes wander over his form as he stood and bowed to her, She then held the child out to him, "I have a task for you, and I trust no other with it." she paused and nodded to Ondine has she passed, "The child's name is Nu'eath. I need her taken to my sister." she paused a moment, "Valun'esta, she is taking care of a... cult of sorts or me."
[13:08:14] Myr'Avin Baen'Rret (turalyon.lapis) held his hands out as Elva handed the child over to him, he held it out at his full arm's length as the Dragon Mages disappeared down toward where the farm had been set up by the Warden of Sylvhara..."A...human child?"...he had started to question the intention of his Ilharess, but his quick mind thought back to the value of a human that would be loyal to her..."I will ensure that this child reaches your sister's cult. Where will I find her?"
[13:31:02] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) nods pleased, with his acceptance of it, she assumed he would see the value in the baby without her needing to explain it. She closed her eyes a moment and reached for her mana, she could picture bag in her minds eye and as she focused on it, she reached towards the weave, searching for the thread that would lead her to the bag. Once she felt it, she held her hand out and said softly, "Lar" and released her magic pulling the bag through the weave to them. The bag popped into resistance and fell to the ground between her and Myr.
[13:34:58] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) looks pleased at the bag as it hit the ground. "In the bag you will find special milk for the child and supplies to keep it. You will also find instructions on h ow to locate her. She will know of you, and there is a letter for her with my wishes for the child."
[13:38:07] Myr'Avin Baen'Rret (turalyon.lapis) awkwardly tries to cradle the child like he had seen Elva do just moments before, tucking it like a loaf of bread in his left arm as he reaches down to take the satchel in his hand..."Very well Illharess."...he would bow deeply not thinking about the infant he carried in his arm when he did..."I will make haste to deliver this child to her, and shall return to you once the task has been finished."...he would raise up from the bow, the child waking to begin fussing in his arms from being tossed about slightly since he took it
[13:45:04] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) nods but eyes show a little concern, it never occurred to her that the assassin might not know how to care of the baby, She almost visibly shrugged, and moved to try to correct the position of the baby in his arm to support the head in what she viewed as a safer posistion. Deciding to give him a few pointers before leaving, "Careful with the head, it is not fully formed and you can injure the child if it is bumped or shaken. Feed it when it cries, there is milk in the bag. and try to keep it clean."
[13:48:39] Myr'Avin Baen'Rret (turalyon.lapis) looked down as she shifted his hand to support the infants head better, listening to the instructions on how to care for the tiny human on his trip, and he already began to plan to swaddle the child in blankets before strapping it to his back so he had use of both of his arms on the trek..."Very well Illharess. I will prepare to leave as the sun sets in the sky."...he would bow again, this time taking more care in how he held the child..."Is there anything else you wish of me, Matron?"
[13:59:13] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) nods pleased that he would be off so soon. She began to pull her hood up when his asked his last question, she stopped and frowned. She seemed to remember something as she them pulled out a small ring of metal the size of a bracelet and offered it to him as well, "I need this to be checked over for magical properties, it was picked up off an illithid during the last battle. I need to know its value for the High King."
[14:02:34] Myr'Avin Baen'Rret (turalyon.lapis) set down the bag of supplies that he had been given to help take care of the child, and accepted the large, bracelet sized, ring from Elva; tucking it into one of the pouches on his belt before taking the bag up..."I know just the person to ask. I will take care of that upon returning from the cult village."...he would sling the bag over his right shoulder, and would make his way past Elva with a confident swagger as he headed back down to the tavern to prepare
[14:03:40] Elva'ree Do'Valtor (elvaree.llewellyn) nods to him and watches him walk away. once out of sight she began making her way back to Ru

The journey begins
Myr'Avin Baen'Rret left the Last Call tavern Locksmith once the stars had awaken high in the night sky, the small child, Nu'eath, was strapped to his back while being swaddled in blankets and leathers. His identity was concealed as it normally was when he was in his true guise as the Nameless Assassin, making sure that no one would associate the Last Call tavern with his illegal jobs that he often takes. He would follow the shadows cast by the large trees, making his way to the Hall of Arms where the horses were kept safe for the Cavalier that called Sylvhara home.
Upon reaching the stables of the Hall of Arms Myr'Avin would carefully disable the guards that patrolled the area at night, using a carefully designed blow gun to shoot darts lined with Khaless into the necks of each guard to knock them out completely, and then would burst out of the stables area at a full gallop after having stole a sleek black stallion; ridding off to the east out of Sylvhara in order to deliver the infant to the cult.
As he rode the beautiful stallion through the deep forests he raised himself up off the back of the horse to ensure a smooth ride for Nu'aeth as instructed by Elva'ree, small branches slap against his shoulders as he passes between trees off of any well traveled trails, and since he had Veris ensure the child was clean before he left he would strive to keep the rigorous pace as long as he could before he would need to rest the animal he stole.
Hours had passed since he left the safety of Sylvhara behind him in the night, the stallion he had taken was finally starting to tire, and the child had been restless for a a while . He found a small shack that was on the edge of a forest that he figured may be a hunter's hideaway, he approached it slowly not certain if anyone would be making it a residence at this time of year, and would begin to pick the lock on the door carefully as the sun rose slowly to mark the dawn of a new day. Once he pushed the door open he would draw his Ulaks for defense against anything inside, but found the shack disappointingly empty other than some smoked meat that was packed in salt..."They will not be back today, but they may be back soon."...he would take a chunk of the smoked meat to eat as he laid the child down on the cot that was in the corner time to take care of you I suppose; I would not want to upset the Illharess...
Finally, giving Hope
Myr'Avin sits across the room from the child as he chews on a piece of the dried meat that was left behind by what ever hunter called his shack home, his nostrils flared as he could smell the foul smell coming from the baby when he remembered what his Illharess had said about keeping it clean, and a grimace would cross his face after finishing what he was eating; moving over to the sack of supplies that Elva'ree had given him before he left.
He dug through the sack till he found a similar piece of cloth that looked much like the one on the bottom of the now crying baby, Pulling the diaper off the baby to reveal the mess it had made on the the way from Sylvhara to this shack they were in now, and he removed a cloth from a warming cauldron of water to clean the infant before putting the new diaper on her; cradling her in his arm he would feed offer it one of the special bottles that were also packed in the sack.
Once Nu'eath had fallen asleep after eating all it could from the bottle Myr would swaddle her up again to lay her on some furs on the cot, he stared down at her in the low light of the shack in wonderment that other races would actually 'sleep' putting themselves at risk, but he would return to where he was eating the dried meats earlier to finish the food; then would enter his own reverie until nightfall.
As the sun began to set over the horizon of trees he readied the stallion he had stolen from the Sylvan Cavaliers, he was certain by this time the sleeping guards would have been found, and they would have noticed one of their best horses missing; a low graveled chuckle would roll from the Rogues chest. Once the horse was ready he would double check that Nu'eath was both clean and fed before swaddling her in the sling he threw over his back once again..."We will be there by the next sun rise"...he spoke more so to himself than the child strapped to him.
Setting off into the night once again Myr spurs the horse into the blistering speed that he had when he left Sylvhara, keeping to the shadows of the trees once again to keep himself hidden from anyone that might have started tracking him at this point, and staying raised off the back of the horse to keep the ride smooth for the infant. As he approached the village that was set in as far into the wilds as possible he was approached by several of its citizens and Valun'esta, he would slide from the back of the stallion to present the infant to her to complete the directive given to him by Elva'ree, and as the child was taken away from him he would find rest in the tavern before making the trek back to Sylvhara.

Reluctant Hope
Valun'estra had been perfectly content, thank you very much. It pricked at her, being separated from her family, but the newest batch of recruits had required her own... touch during their proving. They were the bloodier and more devoted for it.
And the goddess smiled upon her.
The temple was growing slowly, but steadily. More disenfranchised surfacers were being called by the goddess to her aboveground haven for the special brand of nurturing only Her own could provide. Yes, the satisfaction of a job well done was certainly enough to ease the ache of being so far from her sister, only recently returned to her after years of literal hellish separation. Or her grown daughter finally out on her own... so far away. It was a joy to do the goddess's work here... among the surfacers... alone.
Perhaps 'perfectly content' was a stretch.
Still, she did not pray for company. That was weakness she could ill-afford now. Raising Iymae had made her soft, sedentary. For her to be here, the goddess was surely tempering her for something. She needed to be strong, to withstand the temptation to pity herself or scry home too often. Far better to turn that pain and loss into a sharp tongue and whip for the Disciples.
Valun'estra knew better. To careful what you wish for, even in the dark of your heart.
The rider appeared with his tiny bundle and spun her entire existence upside-down.
A child.
A HUMAN child.
Elva'ree - that cotton-brained, surface-breathing, sun-loving DOLT. What in the nine hells would Val do with a HUMAN child?!
Her daughter and niece had been different - those were Do'Valtors, heirs to the surface, walking in the Grace and Blessing of Lolth herself. They were Destined children of a Foretold House. But this little wretch? A pasty, round-eared little thing from a race that was barely older than her? What was Elva drinking over there? Had something completely addled her judgment?
She read the letter again. Raise her, train her.... and allow Jayded to visit her at need. What, that pale elfgirl her sister was always talking of? In the temple?
Uh, NO. The elf would turn tail and take the squirmy thing with her at the first sign of whippings and blood sacrifices. Elves were soft like that with their children. Always coddling them. No elf would let a baby stay in that environment for a second if she could help it.
Which shouldn't bother the Priestess, after all. It would be good riddance.
The child squirmed and let out whimper, finally realizing that her ride was over and she was quite uncomfortable.
Val immediately shushed her gently, slipping her into a more comfortable position and rocking. She called on her power, weaving about herself a calming aura that had always calmed her daughter. Reflex. Like kicking off your shoes. Meaningless, automatic.
Right.
She raised her voice, pitching it to carry but not to irritate the child. "Disciples! I require a cabin of my own prepared for me at least an hours' ride from the Temple by dusk tomorrow! And a scrying mirror - to be brought to me at once."
Sleepy eyes opened, peering uncertainly up at her. She smiled down at it- Hope. Nu'eath. "Let's get you changed and fed - and then I need to have a few words with my dear sister." The little mouth parted in what might be a smile. "And none of them will be 'Goddess bless'."
